Christmas idents are a regular promotional event for the BBC, usually broadcast starting at the start of December. Due to Doctor Who being one of the BBC's most popular programmes, the Doctor or his enemies are often featured in the campaigns.

- 2009 BBC Christmas idents - features David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor riding a reindeer and the TARDIS.
- 2010 BBC Christmas ident - features the Supreme Dalek from the new paradigm with David Walliams and Matt Lucas.
- Consider Yourself One Of Us (2011 ident) - features Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, and a Cyberman, with a large cast of other BBC stars.
- It's Showtime (2012 ident) - features Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor being chased by Miranda Hart.
- 2014 BBC Christmas ident - features a man placing a TARDIS ornament on a blue Christmas tree, before it disappears as the iconic TARDIS noises are heard.
- Sprout Boy Meets a Galaxy of Stars - features Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, as well as narrating the story in character.
- 2016 BBC Christmas ident - among a compilation of people doing Christmassy activites, a little girl watches Heaven Sent with her mother.

- Merry Christmas Doctor Who - 1978 special promoting the Christmas season with Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Mary Tamm as Romana I and John Leeson as K9 Mark II.
- Songtaran Carols - 2012 special starring Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, Dan Starkey as Strax, Neve McIntosh as Vastra and Catrin Stewart as Jenny Flint, all singing Christmas carols.
