The Department of New Towns, also known as the New Towns Department, was a department of the British government responsible for new towns following World War II.
In the 1950s, Professor Sidney Ornadel called them to Ashenden to stop Lizbeth Hayhoe's attempt at removing him from power and, using the Ashenden Formula, they began the construction of a new town. Norton Folgate found himself becoming a mouthpiece for the department and asked Isla Satterthwaite to find a way for the eels to attend meetings. Mr Bowers and his colleagues were soon infected by them.
Amanda Delen of the Department of New Towns went to inspect Ashenden with concerns about the sewage capacity, the undersized medical centre and the absence of any places of worship, but her questions were brushed aside by Gideon Lyme. (AUDIO: Ashenden)
