Isla Satterthwaite

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Isla Satterthwaite was a physicist who, from Ashenden, made contact with the space eels.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Isla Satterthwaite studied physics and languages at the University of Oxford. She went on to work at an armaments-testing factory and with Hungarian rocket engineers, a job that she was assisted in by her skill with languages. In the early 1950s, she was working for Professor Sidney Ornadel at Ashenden tracking station.

Whilst watching the skies for Russian signals, Miss Satterthwaite came across the space eels' signal in deep space. She solved their puzzles, unwittingly giving them data on humanity and their capabilities and producing a model for the populace of the United Kingdom and an equation to calculate the value of a human. She told Lizbeth Hayhoe everything when she visited Ashenden and agreed to continue communication to find out what the eels wanted.

On behalf of the Department of New Towns, Norton Folgate asked Miss Satterthwaite to find a way for the eels to attend meetings, a request which resulted in an eel possessing her and using her as a mouthpiece. The eel later left her body to rot in the tracking station, where it was found some time later by Norton and Lizbeth. (AUDIO: Ashenden)

Appearance[[edit] | [edit source]]

Miss Satterthwaite had an hourglass figure. Norton implied that Lizbeth was attracted to her. (AUDIO: Ashenden)
