Doctor Who calendars

Doctor Who calendars have been licensed by the British Broadcasting Corporation on an almost annual basis since the mid-1980s. In addition to Doctor Who calendars, there have also been a number of calendars related to Torchwood and the Daleks.

Doctor Who: The Calendar 1986

  • Cover depicts the Sixth Doctor.
  • Published by Andrew Skilleter's company (Who Dares Publishing) after the US licence had expired. This was a very successful first venture, selling 20, 000 copies in the USA alone. It showcased the artist's work.

  • Cover depicts the Sixth Doctor.
  • Artwork by Andrew Skilleter.
  • With a decline in interest in Doctor Who, the BBC agreed to a promotion with Golden Wonder crisps. As well as mini-comics, the promotion included an offer on the 1987 calendar.
  • A special printing on thinner card and paper was arranged but demand was greater than expected and ultimately surplus stock was bought from the American distributor.

  • Cover depicts the six Doctors.
  • Andrew Skilleter was having difficulty with a heavy workload. With time running short for the twenty-fifth Anniversary calendar, he enlisted the help of Stuart Hughes, who had worked on The Companions and provided four additional pieces.
  • Design was by Russ French.
1989  
Doctor Who: The Calendar 1989

  • Cover depicts the Seventh Doctor.
  • Artwork by Andrew Skilleter.
  • With a new Doctor Who logo, this calendar was in the larger A3 format with bigger illustrations. The cover design was done in London, with the rest being done by Andrew Skilleter.
  • This calendar was dedicated to Ron Embleton, a good friend who had recently died. It saw the artist move from airbrush to acrylics.
1990 Originally planned with a cover featuring the Seventh Doctor, the 1990 Doctor Who calendar from Who Dares Publishing was cancelled.
