Morbius (Morbius)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

After his trial and execution, a copy of Morbius's consciousness secretly survived within the mind of his Hydran servant Veritas, (AUDIOMorbius [+]Loading...["Morbius (audio story)"]) separately from Mehendri Solon's plan to salvage Morbius's physical brain, as foiled by the Fourth Doctor. (AUDIO: Morbius [+]Loading...["Morbius (audio story)"], TV: The Brain of Morbius [+]Loading...["The Brain of Morbius (TV story)"])

Having reached Morbius's secret stronghold on the Isle of the Dead, Veritas transferred Morbius's mind into the body of Middlewitch, the First Mate of the Time Lord prison ship which had been ferrying Veritas. Morbius overwrote Middlewitch's personality and reshaped his body to resemble his old self, thus granting him a new lease of life. Although he was defeated by a Matrix projection of the Fourth Doctor, who hurled him into the Time Vortex, (AUDIO: Morbius [+]Loading...["Morbius (audio story)"]) he reemerged during the Last Great Time War, seeking revenge on the War Doctor. (AUDIO: Morbius the Mighty [+]Loading...["Morbius the Mighty (audio story)"])

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Samuel West first played Morbius in the audio drama The Vengeance of Morbius [+]Loading...["The Vengeance of Morbius (audio story)"], where he portrayed an incarnation of the character whose existence was erased from Time by the story's resolution. At the time, the implication was that this West Morbius's appearance did not match his first incarnation, with lines remarking on his old robes badly suiting him. When West returned as Morbius in Morbius [+]Loading...["Morbius (audio story)"] a number of years later, however, the suggestion was now that this alternatively resurrected Morbius resembled his original body: multiple characters recognise him on sight, and West already portrays the ghostly version of Morbius in Veritas's mind before he is ever transferred into Middlewitch's body.
