Songtaran Carols was a webcast produced in preparation of the 2012 Christmas special, The Snowmen.
Synopsis[[edit]]
Strax sings three familiar Earth Christmas carols, but each has a Sontaran twist.
Plot[[edit]]
Strax, flanked by Madame Vastra and Jenny, begins by singing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," but soon turns the carol into a warning that a Sontaran warrior is coming to reduce the listener into atoms.
The next song he sings is "When the Red, Red Robin (Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin' Along)" and ends by saying that "I use the twittering avian for target practice!" At this point the Eleventh Doctor and Clara pop up behind him and the Doctor says, "Strax, Christmas is fun. Come on, now," and rubs his bald head.
In the last scene, Strax sings "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and exclaims that Rudolph's nose was a tactical disadvantage, as it also allowed Strax to punch him in the dark. Everyone, including the crew, break character and start laughing.

Story notes[[edit]]
- In 2013, Dan Starkey appeared in a series of promotional webcasts titled Strax Field Report that, like this release, served to promote upcoming episodes.
- This story bears a striking similarity to the 1978 sketch Merry Christmas Doctor Who. Both were made for or at Christmas as a joke, both break the fourth wall, and both end with the cast and crew bursting out laughing.
