We need to wait to see how the Doctor's death resolves/unresolves/whatever, but River does say that they went to see the opera just before ''Silence in the Library''/''Forest of the Dead'' when she presumably receives the screwdriver. This could very easily be right before the Doctor sends the geo letters.
