Talk:John Cleese

"One of David Tennant's heroes"[[edit source]]

I've seen this statement made on the Derek Jacobi article, too. If we can't cite a source there's no point having this here. 23skidoo 05:24, September 22, 2009 (UTC)

These statements started turning up on various pages a while ago, I think it's best just to get rid of them as they turned up around the same time and all un-sourced. --Tangerineduel 07:02, September 22, 2009 (UTC)

In-universe page[[edit source]]

I think we should make this page primarily in-universe, and have the present main-body as a behind-the-scenes section. After all, this wiki prioritises the DWU, right? --SOTO 23:15, March 24, 2013 (UTC)

I see your point, but I disagree, mainly because the bulk of the information on the page is about the real John Cleese. Why? Becase Cleese doesn't actually appear in the DWU. There are some throwaway references, like there are to Kylie Minogue or even Amy Pickwoad. But his primary relevance to the DWU, like these two real world women, is his real world one. He's mainly important to us because he was a guest actor in City of Death. Thus, in this case, we flip the "normal" order.
Now, I know you're only asking to reverse the order of information on this page, but let's take things a step further. Would it be possible to split the pages? I don't think so. John Cleese (actor) doesn't work, because the in-universe character is also an actor. Similarly, the in-universe Kylie couldn't be usefully dabbed by (singer). In a sense, it's cases like these that show the limits of T:NAMING, T:DAB and T:FTRW. This is what we in IT call "an edge case": an exception that's uncommon enough that it can be ignored in the formulation of a rule or a bit of code. We just have to make a page that is simultaneously real world and in-universe, with the most-significant portion of their DWU "career" taking top position.

We now have pages for both Kylie Minogue (in-universe) and Amy Pickwoad (The Bells of Saint John). With regards to naming, couldn't we just call the in-universe page John Cleese (in-universe) and be done with it? I think some of the policies that User:CzechOut mentions may have changed since 2013? I guess technically that's what T:DAB IU says, but that's not really what Forum:Temporary forums/IU DAB Terms was about. Huh, weird. Probably works based on the things you're citing though, mentions should be sufficient. Najawin 20:16, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
