{{Who/doc}} is a template that puts a small, in-line message in the body of text which asks the question "by whom?". It's used when statements are vague, in order to get some sort of greater precision.
For instance, you might consider using this template in situations like these:
- They[who?] were often the first to arrive in a crisis.
- Obviously, if the previous part of the paragraph tells you who they are, you won't need this statement. But a surprising number of our articles forget to define their pronouns.
- The Tenth Doctor told Wilfred Mott that he[who?] was ready to die.
- We can probably figure this one out for ourselves, but this sort of construction leads to confusion all the time. When you have two named males in a sentence, using "he" later on is often ambiguous
- The Second Doctor told the Third Doctor that he[who?] was wrong.
- This is a trickier situation. Who's wrong? The Second Doctor or the Third? Both are completely plausible interpretations.
This wiki has a number of templates which put small, inline statements within the body of articles that seek specific improvements in articles. These include:
- Attribution request templates
- Categorised into articles with statements that need more specific attribution
- Primary documentation at {{says who}}
- These all do the same thing, but put different, contextually-appropriate phrases into the body of the article:
- Clarification request templates
- Categorised into articles with statements that need clarification
- This indicates that a statement, as worded, makes so little sense that you can't figure out how to improve it. It's not meant as a statement of incredulity. You're not saying with this that you don't believe the statement. You're saying that it's so poorly written that you have no idea what the statement means.
- {{what}}
- Source request templates
- Categorised into articles needing citation
- These templates challenge the veracity of a statement, to one degree or another, by indicating that the statement needs better sourcing:
- {{fact}} or {{source}}
- {{disputed}}
- {{facts}}, categorised into articles needing additional citations
