The Dalek Conquests was a BBC Radio documentary which gave an account of Dalek history, recorded from the remains of the Vault in Utah, after a lone Dalek was discovered in 2012.
Hosted by a narrator, The Dalek Conquests covered what was known of Dalek history derived from humanity's knowledge of the Time Lord known as the Doctor, believed to be the last survivor of the Last Great Time War, as well as fragments of Dalek transmissions that had been recovered throughout time and space. The Dalek Conquest's account of Dalek history ended with their apparent end at the hands of the Bad Wolf, however, the narrator did ponder openly as to whether a species with access to time travel could ever truly go extinct. As acknowledged by The Dalek Conquests, humanity's source of knowledge regarding the Daleks was a being known only as the Doctor, believed to be the last of the Time Lords. Through recently recovered archive recordings of the Doctor's exploits, The Dalek Conquests pieced together a history of the Daleks and so divulged the following information, acknowledging that both the Doctor and the Daleks were capable of travelling through time as well as space. This time factor made Dalek history a "mysterious jigsaw", with the Doctor's encounters with the Daleks being scattered at random throughout their history. As such, The Dalek Conquests, while not having "all the pieces", presented fragments of Dalek transmissions that had been recovered throughout time and space, echoing through the Void or squeezed through temporal anomalies and black holes, which helped to fill in the gaps. The Time War[[edit] | [edit source]]
One fragmented Dalek transmission mentioned the Time War, with the Daleks anticipating victory and the extermination of the Time Lords. (AUDIO: The Dalek Conquests)
The Vault[[edit] | [edit source]]
Having been drawn off-course by a signal, the Ninth Doctor and his companion, Rose Tyler, arrived at the Vault where they encountered a lone Dalek survivor of the Time War. The Dalek was the "jewel" of Henry van Statten's collection of alien artefacts. Ultimately, the Dalek broke free by luring Rose into emotional sympathy with its plight, allowing it to extrapolating cellular information and energy from the biomass of the time traveller before proceeding to engage and exterminate van Statten's heavily-armed and highly-trained private army. By doing so, it demonstrated not only power of flight and the almost unlimited destructive force of its firepower, but its "cunning and evil" alien mind. It the absence of commands from its superior, its intention was merely to exterminate everything in its path. However, the Dalek also absorbed human characteristics from Rose, which proved to be its downfall. Loathing itself, the Dalek craved freedom. Opening its casing, the Dalek exposed its mutant form. Deeming that it was no longer a true Dalek, it destroyed itself. (TV: Dalek, AUDIO: The Dalek Conquests)
