Forum:Bug in the Game of Rassilon
If this thread's title doesn't specify it's spoilery, don't bring any up.
This is very low on the scale of importance, but I think there's a bug in the Game of Rassilon. Last night I noticed that I was one day away from winning the "Dr. Henderson's TARDIS Key" badge, for editing on the wiki for 14 days straight. Yesterday, it said that I was at 13/14. I've edited today, and The badge counter appears to have reset itself to 1/14. (You can check my contributions and verify that I have, in fact, edited for more than 14 consecutive days.)
I'm not whining about this because I care tremendously about the Game of Rassilon, but because I figured this might be a bug that might bother another user who came across it. I don't know whether this is the best place to mention this, or how much control we have over the game's workings, but I thought better to mention it than not. —Josiah Rowe talk to me 02:46, May 13, 2012 (UTC)
- Understand from the outset that the programming for the game is done by Wikia. This wiki would have no power to correct errors in the code. However, no such error exists, based on the evidence you've brought forward. You've merely encountered a wrinkle in the game's rules.
- The Game of Rassilon classifies a day as that period between 0000 and 2359 UTC. If you miss that window, you've missed a day. Since this certainly happened to you, there is no bug. There's a gap of some 32 hours between your last edit 11 May (Talk:Regeneration unit) and your first edit on 12 May (The Keys of Marinus (TV story)).
- However, these dates are being rendered into my local time. As near as I can figure in trying to juggle three radically different time zones in my head — yours, mine and UTC — you didn't make any edits on what UTC would consider 11 May 2012. So your counter reset, as it should have, according to the game's design.
- Of course, that design isn't common-sensical. I'm sure you'd agree that it should be pegged to your own local day rather than UTC. However, it's hard to see how that would be administered, since it's possible to just change your time differential in Special:Preferences and "cheat" the system. Fairness demands that "time zone" be a constant, so it's pegged to UTC.
