Hawkins rented a junkyard to a man named Doctor John Smith. When Smith disappeared, Hawkins hired Joseph Galloway, a rag and bone man, to clear out the junkyard. Hawkins told Galloway that Smith was the guardian of the schoolgirl who had recently gone missing. (PROSE: The Rag and Bone Man's Story)
