If Doctor Who ended tomorrow, for years to come we would still see children playing at being Daleks, just as they did in the lengthy gap - five years - between Evil of the Daleks and The Day of the Daleks. What made them quite so popular no one knows; perhaps they fill a gap that most fantasy creations in the 1960s were unable to.
