"Puttin' on the Ritz" is a song that played extra-diegetically near the beginning of Daleks in Manhattan. It was used to underscore the scene where the Tenth Doctor explains the concept of a "Hooverville" to Martha Jones.

The song was originally published by Irving Berlin in 1929 and was first seen on screen in a film of the same name from March 1930. It was therefore perfectly period-appropriate for Daleks in Manhattan, which set in November of 1930.
