Kali was the Hindu goddess of death.
According to one account, she was a powerful being from another dimension engaged in eternal combat with an equally strong opponent. The Seventh Doctor, Ace and K-9 stopped them from destroying the Earth. (PROSE: Storm in a Tikka)
Another account said that Kali was the leader of the Kaliratha, a vampiric species. She possessed Clara in the 24th century, but she was freed and Kali defeated by the Twelfth Doctor. (COMIC: The Swords of Kali)
