A Tesla binding field was an electric field surrounding prison facilities, which prevented escape by use of teleportation by transmat or vortex manipulator. One such field was placed around Stormcage Containment Facility; even after recovering her vortex manipulator, River Song had to escape the confines of the building, and therefore the field, to be able to escape.
