On 20 December 1893, bottle factory owner Nathaniel Seers underwent a sudden change of personality. He sacked an employee who had suffered an injury at the factory instead of showing his usual compassion and philanthropy. Events in the following month revealed that Seers had been killed and replaced by a Zygon. (PROSE: The Bodysnatchers)

On 25 December, the Sherlock Holmes story by Arthur Conan Doyle, The Final Problem, first appeared in the Christmas issue of The Strand. (PROSE: The Bodysnatchers)

While in Yorkshire, the Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald entered the community of Sweetville to investigate what the "crimson horror" was but were trapped after being subject to the red leech's poison. Jenny Flint rescued them. Jenny and Madame Vastra removed the poison from a rocket, preventing Mrs Winifred Gillyflower and Mr Sweet's plans to destroy humanity. Strax killed Mrs Gillyflower to save the lives of the Doctor and his friends, and Mrs Gillyflower's daughter, Ada, crushed Mr Sweet. (TV: The Crimson Horror)
