In 1985, a number of things set in or relevant to the Doctor Who universe were released or published.
- January - DWM 96 was published.
- 3 January - A Call from the Master was first broadcast on BBC1.
- 5 January - Attack of the Cybermen Part One debuted on BBC1, launching the ill-fated Season 22. Beginning with this episode, the series moved to forty-five-minute episodes and returned to once-a-week broadcasts.
- 12 January - Attack of the Cybermen Part Two debuted on BBC1.
- 19 January - Vengeance on Varos Part One debuted on BBC1.
- 26 January - Vengeance on Varos Part Two debuted on BBC1.
- February - DWM 97 was published.
- 2 February - The Mark of the Rani Part One debuted on BBC1.
- 9 February - The Mark of the Rani Part Two debuted on BBC1.
- 14 February - Doctor Who - Planet of Fire was first published.
- 16 February - The Two Doctors Part One debuted on BBC1.
- 23 February - The Two Doctors Part Two debuted on BBC1.
- 23 February - A Fix with Sontarans debuted on BBC1 as a segment of Jim'll Fix It.
- March - DWM 98 was published.
- 2 March - The Two Doctors Part Three debuted on BBC1.
- 9 March - Timelash Part One debuted on BBC1.
- 14 March - Doctor Who - The Caves of Androzani was first published.
- 15 March - "Doctor in Distress", a single recorded by cast members of Doctor Who to raise money for charity and to call upon the BBC not to cancel the series, was released in the UK.
- 16 March - Timelash Part Two debuted on BBC1.
- 23 March - Revelation of the Daleks Part One debuted on BBC1.
- 30 March - Revelation of the Daleks Part Two debuted on BBC1, concluding Season 22, believed at the time to be the show's last.
- April - Severn House published Doctor Who Book of Space, a hardcover version of Doctor Who Quiz Book of Space aimed at libraries.
- April - DWM 99 was published. It was the first issue to have a title of The Doctor Who Magazine; by the year's end (in issue 107) "The" was dropped from the magazine's title.
- 11 April - Doctor Who - Marco Polo was first published.
- May - Doctor Who Magazine published its hundredth issue.
- 9 May - Puzzle Book was published.
- 16 May - REF: The Doctor Who Cookbook was first published.
- 16 May - REF: The Doctor Who Monster Book was republished nearly ten years after its first issue. A poster included in the first release was omitted in the reprint.
- 30 May - REF: Doctor Who: The TARDIS Inside Out was first published.
- Doctor Who 1985 Summer Special Classic, a reprinting of Doctor Who Magazine comic strips, was published by Marvel Comics.
- June - DWM 101 was published.
- 13 June - Doctor Who - The Awakening was first published.
- Mid-June - An original Doctor Who radio play, Slipback, was recorded for BBC Radio, with Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant reprising their roles.
- Summer - Doctor Who Summer Special 1985 was published.
- July - Severn House published Doctor Who Book of Science, a hardcover version of Doctor Who Quiz Book of Science aimed at libraries.
- July - DWM 102 was published.
- 11 July - Doctor Who - The Mind of Evil was first published.
- 25 July - Slipback Parts One and Two were first broadcast on BBC Radio.
- August - The Doctor Who Annual 1986 was published. This was the final annual to be published by World Distributors, ending a series that had begun in 1965. The annual format was revived by Marvel Comics in the 1990s.
- August - DWM 103 was published.
- 8 August - Slipback Parts Three and Four were first broadcast on BBC Radio.
- 22 August - Slipback Parts Five and Six were first broadcast on BBC Radio.
- September - DWM 104 was published.
- 12 September - Doctor Who - The Myth Makers was first published.
- 12 September - REF: The Doctor Who Illustrated A to Z was first published.
- The US edition of REF: Doctor Who: The TARDIS Inside Out was published.
- October - DWM 105 was published.
- 10 October - Doctor Who - The Invasion was first published.
- 14 October - REF: The Third Doctor Who Quiz Book by Nigel Robinson was first published. It was the final book in the series.
- 31 October - REF: Doctor Who: Timeview was first published.
- Winter - Doctor Who Magazine Winter Special 1985 was published.
- November - DWM 106 was published.
- 14 November - Doctor Who - The Krotons was first published.
- 22 November - Numerous Doctor Who actors reunited for a special appearance during the annual Children in Need appeal, including Colin Baker, Patrick Troughton, Peter Davison, Jon Pertwee, Nicola Bryant, Nicholas Courtney, Janet Fielding, Carole Ann Ford, Richard Franklin, Adrienne Hill, Louise Jameson, Caroline John, John Levene, Ian Marter, Maureen O'Brien, Peter Purves, Elisabeth Sladen, Mark Strickson and Matthew Waterhouse.
