Private Buchanan was a soldier who worked for the Forge. He was involved in Project: Valhalla.
In late 2001, after Mark Bradley was killed by Cassandra Schofield, Lysandra Aristedes ordered Buchanan to help Private Kirk carry the corpse in a stretcher into the Forge Alpha Facility. He was relieved to be assigned a task that got him away from the situation.
A while later, Buchanan travelled to Finland after Nyathoggoth's prison ship crashed in the Laplands. After Private Kirk was murdered by Iver Dunfjeld, Buchanan helped Aristedes kill Iver. By swinging his gun he silently communicated with her while hiding from Iver. They found their chance to shoot him when he tripped on a snowmobile. (PROSE: Project: Valhalla)
