Gravity spiders were weapons developed by the Great Houses to use against the enemy.
They were scattered throughout the Spiral Politic and were tuned to notice the change in gravity caused when an enemy timeship materialised. The gravity spiders rushed to that particular moment in time and space, assembled into a critical mass and detonated. (PROSE: The Book of the War)
