Jacques Fournier served in the French army, going to Bosnia with UN peacekeeping forces and picking up the English language fluently there. He suffered from post-traumatic stress and saw a counsellor, Dr Sophie Rousseau, upon leaving the army.

Fournier became a chauffeur. In April 2004, his wife noticed that he was in a trance-like state which Dr Rousseau had put him in for the Committee. That day, he crashed and died, whilst passenger Neil Redmond was crippled. Jack Harkness spoke to his wife about the incident. (AUDIO: Uncanny Valley)
