Type 70, also known as Mark 70, was a type of TARDIS used by Time Lords and more advanced than the Type 40. The Fifth Doctor noted that a Type 70 TARDIS could break through a temporal distortion grid, whereas his own Type 40 could not. (AUDIO: Singularity)

CIA Coordinator Vansell used a Type 70 TARDIS. This particular TARDIS was unregistered and modified for Celestial Intervention Agency use. (AUDIO: The Sirens of Time)

Robert Knox owned a Mark 70, which could be voice controlled allowing Knox to guide his ship by voice alone as well as turning on the scanner, or summoning a lift installed, and the TARDIS responded in a calm female voice, and was even able to perform non-invasive medical scans on anyone inside the ship. He purchased it from a Nekkistani on Gryben. The TARDIS was able to run system checks to detect faults and report them verbally for the benefits of their pilots, and could be switched to manual control when commanded, though the Sixth Doctor had problems operating the controls since it was a more advanced model than the TARDIS he was used to. The Doctor was amazed by Knox's customisations on the TARDIS, such as the elevator. (AUDIO: Medicinal Purposes, Assassin in the Limelight)

The Eighth Doctor once had to steer his TARDIS past a flotilla of Type 70s trying to locate him in the time vortex. (AUDIO: Embrace the Darkness)

A feature of the Type 70 was that it could pause its materialisation. Lady President Romana II used this feature when changing timelines whilst interrogating Commander Torvald, and always wanted to test it out. However, she found it pointless when K9 told her that it lasted two microspans. (AUDIO: A Blind Eye)

The renegade Time Lord known as the Clocksmith owned a Type 70 TARDIS, (AUDIO: The Doomsday Chronometer, The Eighth Piece) which the Eighth Doctor and River Song used to get to the Crucible of Souls. (AUDIO: The Crucible of Souls)
