Self-isolation

Self-isolation was an activity Yvonne Hartman recommended the people of Britain practice in the face of an unknown crisis in a widely-broadcast video message. She added that if they did not comply, she would have to see these guidelines physically enforced in a less-than-pleasant way. (WC: Incoming Message)

Once infected by Provictus, an advanced strain of the Good Thinking virus, Jack Harkness isolated himself in his Torchwood Three office to keep his colleagues safe from infection, and from the murderous behaviour he knew the virus would bring out in him. Behind the scenes

• In the webcast Message from the Doctor, the Thirteenth Doctor humorously describes hiding in a closet from an army of Sontarans as "self-isolating".
• Both Message from the Doctor and Incoming Message were released in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which necessitated this practice and brought self-isolation to the popular consciousness.
