- This story marked the first Doctor Who? appearance of the Menoptera, who made just one television appearance in The Web Planet, and had not been seen in any medium since the Doctor Who Annual 1966, both released in 1965.
- The Fifth Doctor would later encounter the Menoptera in Return to the Web Planet in 2007.
