Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight was a small island in the English Channel, just off the central south coast of England. (PROSE: One Small Step...)

History

In 1648, King Charles I was imprisoned on the Isle of Wight. (PROSE: The Roundheads)

A German U-boat which was patrolling the English Channel in 1943 was sent forward in time to October 1964, where it threatened to torpedo the Isle of Wight ferry. Sir Toby Kinsella of the Intrusion Counter-Measures Group ordered Group Captain Ian Gilmore and his squad to investigate and render assistance to the personnel of the nearby Lanchester Naval Base. (AUDIO: State of Emergency)

In July 1969, the Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon and Zoe Heriot took a holiday in Compton Bay. (PROSE: One Small Step...)

By the early 26th century, the Isle of Wight was the site of a penal colony. (AUDIO: Scorpius)

References

Donna Noble joked to the Tenth Doctor that a large rock might become the Isle of Wight while watching the creation of the Earth. (TV: The Runaway Bride) When later asked about her holiday experiences, Donna listed the Isle of Wight among the locations which she had visited. (COMIC: The Widow's Curse)

Behind the scenes

Some scenes for the TV story The Sea Devils, including the exterior of the Master's prison, were filmed on the Isle of Wight. In particular, the towns of Bembridge, Sandown and East Cowes and various natural and human-built landmarks on the Island were utilised.[1]
