Lord Alexander Ernhardt was the lord of a castle in Klimtenburg during the 19th century. He was married to Marie Ernhardt and had a son, Victor. When his son contracted a plague, he called on the Watchman to cure him as he had done with Lady Ernhardt. Unbeknownst to him, however, his wife had died, but a robotic copy had been created by the Watchman. His son was also being augmented using cybernetics salvaged from a crashed Cyber-ship.

When the Eleventh Doctor arrived to stop the Cybermen from freeing themselves from hibernation, Lord Ernhardt helped to amass a small army from the local village to stop the Cybermen from reaching his son. Following a brutal battle, and despite losing his son in the onslaught, Ernhardt was reunited with his wife after learning of her immortality. (PROSE: Plague of the Cybermen)
