Angelo was a Cardinal for the Catholic Church.
Following a series of suicides, Angelo went with the Pope when he met with the Twelfth Doctor at St Luke's University, where he summoned him to the Vatican to read the Veritas.
He later took the Doctor, Bill and Nardole through the Vatican Library to the Veritas. The Monks later took him. (TV: Extremis)
