Hooverville
"Hooverville" was a name applied to shantytowns that arose during the Great Depression. They were located all over America, and temporarily housed people made homeless by the economic downturn. One was even situated in the middle of Central Park in Manhattan. A man known as Solomon acted as its unofficial leader.
History
The Doctor and Martha Jones visited the "Hooverville" in Central Park in 1930, and helped investigate where many of its residents were disappearing to whilst working for Mr Diagoras. They found that many of them had been kidnapped and subjected to genetic experiments by the Cult of Skaro turning them into beings known as pig slaves.
Cult of Skaro members Dalek Caan and Thay attacked this Hooverville with a troop of pig slaves. When the attack became evident Solomon rallied the occupants of Hoovervile into an army (of sorts) to defend the town, but as it became desperate he attempted a negotiation, but was exterminated by Dalek Caan.
