James Stevens aims at the President through the sights of his rifle. (PROSE: Who Killed Kennedy)

According to one account, James Stevens' rifle was the weapon that fired the kill shot in the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The Warren Commission found that it had been Lee Harvey Oswald's rifle, (PROSE: Who Killed Kennedy) something another account agreed upon. (PROSE: Untitled)

Stevens first saw this rifle in action when he travelled back to 1963 in an attempt to stop Francis Cleary from changing history as part of a plan by the Master. After incapacitating Clearly and finding himself with the rifle believed to be Oswald's in the sniper's nest of the Texas School Book Depository, he used its telescopic sight to locate the Master. When the Master purposely antagonised him, Stevens chose to use the rifle to shoot him instead of preserving history by shooting Kennedy. The bullet smashed into the pavement and up into the air harmlessly, the sights having become misaligned when Cleary dropped it in the struggle. However, Kennedy still died after a further two shots were fired and Stevens swiveled the sight to the tall wooden fence behind the grassy knoll in time to see that the true assassin was an older version of himself. (PROSE: Who Killed Kennedy) According to another account, Oswald's rifle, which had been given to Oswald by the Time Lord Designer Berenyi, fired all three shots into the President. (PROSE: Untitled)

Stevens had bought the rifle by January 1996. His book, Who Killed Kennedy, revealed the truth behind the assassination. In his final entry before he used the Time Ring to return to 1963 and kill Kennedy, Stevens noted that the rifle was beside him as he wrote the words. (PROSE: Who Killed Kennedy)
