Fourth Galaxy

The Fourth Galaxy, (TV: The Daleks' Master Plan) also referred to as "Galaxy 4" (TV: Galaxy 4) or the fourth universe, (TV: The Edge of Destruction, PROSE: The Edge of Destruction) was one of seven galaxies that allied themselves with the Daleks. (TV: The Daleks' Master Plan)
It also contained the home planet of the Suffering (AUDIO: The Suffering)' and the planet Drahva, home to the Drahvins. (TV: Galaxy 4) The Semestran Interlude were natives of Galaxy 4. (AUDIO: Voyage to the New World)
The First Doctor once claimed that Quinnis was located in "the fourth universe". (TV: The Edge of Destruction) Most accounts agreed that he was referring, by another name, to the Fourth Galaxy, (PROSE: The Edge of Destruction, The Devil Goblins from Neptune) although one actually claimed that Quinnis was located in a parallel universe, distinct from the Doctor and Susan's home universe (the "third universe"). (AUDIO: Quinnis)
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Devil Goblins from Neptune was the first source to explicitly equate the terms of "Fourth Galaxy" (as used in The Daleks' Master Plan) and "Galaxy 4" (as used in the TV story of the same name) through placing Quinnis, said in the novelisation of The Edge of Destruction to be in the Fourth Galaxy, in "Galaxy 4".
- In the TV version of The Edge of Destruction, the First Doctor refers to the location of Quinnis as the "Fourth Universe". Although this was evidently a case of David Whitaker using the antiquated scientific terminology which dubbed galaxies "island universes", some later stories have interpreted the remark to genuinely refer to a different dimension than N-Space, most notably AUDIO: Quinnis.
