Nettles was an old friend of Iris Wildthyme. He asked Iris why she was kneeling over a dead body. He asked Iris and Panda to help investigate the murders. He was a shapeshifting Crobian, and conducted the murders he was investigating as he could split in two. (AUDIO: Midwinter Murders)

Inspector Nettles is a reference to Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby from Midsomer Murders, who was played by John Nettles.
