Story notes

  • It has been revealed that, with this Series being broadcast earlier than previous series, this episode will broadcast before the Eurovision Song Contest. This is a first for the Series, which has usually been disrupted by Eurovision in the past.
  • Amy will escape the Silurian holding her captive and be reunited with the Doctor at some point in the story.
  • The Doctor and Nasreen will be captured, and the Doctor possibly tortured - on the next time trailer he is shown strapped to a slab, screaming in pain.
  • A review revealed that the Doctor further learns of the mysterious crack and big bang, and he seems frightened/concerned that everyone (as in, enemies such as Prisoner Zero and the Weeping Angels) knows except him. It also refers to: "some kind of space time cataclysm, an explosion maybe... big enough to put cracks in the universe..."
  • It has been revealed that Alaya dies during this episode.[5]
  • Rory Williams is killed and consumed by a crack effectively erasing himself from the timeline.
  • It is revealed the Tardis is at least at the center of the explosion that started the cracks. As the Doctor fishes a piece of Tardis out of a crack. Of note is that it is the same color as the Ninth Doctor's And the Tenth Doctor's Tardis.

Rumours

  • It is rumoured that the Silurians are stealing bodies to splice with Silurian DNA to make half-human/half-Silurians. They could be compared with the Pig Slaves. The fact that some of the Silurian-like creatures in the trailers appear to be wearing regular human clothing may support this; also a Silurian was seen with the Doctor's equipment which has some liquid in. It was revealed in The Hungry Earth that they are actually kidnapping humans for dissection, but it is unknown what they are dissecting them for so this may still be true. They can, hovever, mutate humans with their venom. In Cold Blood it was revealed that this was for the scientists to discover more about the human race.
  • It's possible the Silurians will survive since they will appear in the finale. (Or a new group of Silurians will return.) This is likely as the Silurians are put into stasis chambers for 1000 years, and a crack in time was found underground possibly marking a time jump.
  • According to on-set fan reports, from filming, it seems that Rory Williams will die by saving the Doctor and then be swallowed by the Time Field crack near the end of the episode. This was proven true as well as Amy forgetting all memory of Rory, however the box for Amy's engagement ring was still in the TARDIS.
  • The Doctor will look into a crack and see the TARDIS door sign on fire. The previous two rumours seem likely to come true, as a review for the episode mentioned the mysterious 'big bang' and the crack, and the possible death of a regular cast character. This was partially true. The Doctor recovers a door sign on the TARDIS exterior with burn marks, but no TARDIS is seen physically.
  • There will be conflict among the Silurians as in the trailer for Series 5 released after The End of Time Part Two, Restac is shown pointing a gun at the Silurian Scientist. This was true. There was a military-science conflict between them.

Production errors

  • When running from the Silurians in the tunnels, the Doctor holds his sonic screwdriver. In the shots of the Doctor, the screwdriver is vertical, but in the shots of the Silurians, the screwdriver is more horizontal.
