Showdown in Space! was the sixth cover story printed in Action 21 to contain elements from the Doctor Who universe. Framed as the front page of an in-universe periodical, it was a crossover with Fireball XL5, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.

- Fireball XL5 is a World Space Patrol spacecraft.
- Heart specialist Doctor Geoffrey Adams is at the centre of drama over Kenya as his private jet has been forced to make a crash landing due to reactor troubles.
- John Tracy is keeping Action 21 informed of the situation using Thunderbird 5.
- Following the failiure of their plan to destroy Unity City, the Mysterons have announced the Earth Observatory Network as their next target. Spectrum are moving into action.
Story notes
- This story revealed that the first name of Doctor Adams from the Thunderbirds comic story Mission to Africa was Geoffrey whereas the Dateline 2089 story Lhomel to go as freedom force hits Astra! gave his name as Henry.
Continuity
- Steve Zodiac is travelling towards the Astran space fleet with "vital evidence" about the assassination of the Kaplan. (COMIC: Zodiac Flies Out..., XL5 Under Attack)
- If Zodiac can deliver the proof to the new Kaplan, it will end the threat of Space War between Earth and Astra. (COMIC: Assassination!)
