Lawrence Richmond

Lawrence Richmond, or according to one account, Lawrence Smythe, (PROSE: Instruments of Darkness) was a war buff with a special interest in codebreaking, some of which his ex-wife Evelyn Smythe picked up. (AUDIO: Project: Twilight) Evelyn divorced him after he protested against her attending an academic conference on their wedding anniversary. (AUDIO: The Marian Conspiracy) They were in the middle of their divorce in 1993. They had been married for 25 years before this. Evelyn expressed a level of regret for divorcing Lawrence, someone whom she still loved. (PROSE: Instruments of Darkness)

Behind the scenes

Lawrence Richmond is mentioned by Evelyn as one "Lawrence Smythe" within Instruments of Darkness. While perhaps unusual, Instruments is well known for holding within it a large number of other contradictions to other sources, many among them regarding the ultimate fate of Evelyn as a companion of the Doctor. With this it can be assumed that the telling of events detailed within Instruments has a "Lawrence Smythe", if not so within the audio continuity.
