The Dalek leader of the expedition squad seeking the species' creator, Davros, in the ruins of the Dalek City was a grey Dalek (TV: Destiny of the Daleks) subordinate to the Supreme Dalek. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Destiny of the Daleks)

Characteristics[[edit] | [edit source]]

This grey Dalek was distinguished by its casing which appeared with a darker shade of grey than its subordinates. In addition, its shoulder slats were grey whilst its subordinates' were black, with present Daleks having black sense globes in common. As such, the Dalek leader was closer in appearance to the prototype grey Daleks created by Davros. (TV: Destiny of the Daleks)

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Dalek Survival Guide observed that, during the Dalek-Movellan War, different versions of what it designated as Type 2 Dalek Drones worked within the same battle sections in varying states of disrepair. (PROSE: Dalek Survival Guide) The Dalek Combat Training Manual was aware that Davros's prototype design had been replicated for later design units with variant coatings resulting in different shades of grey. (PROSE: Dalek Combat Training Manual)

In the Movellan Incident, the Dalek leader ordered the capture of a newly-regenerated Romana. During the Dalek-Movellan War, it remained loyal to Davros and even threatened to kill all of the prisoners if the Fourth Doctor didn't surrender Davros to them. It was destroyed by an explosive implanted on its casing after the Doctor blinded its eyestalk with his hat. (TV: Destiny of the Daleks)

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

It was remembered by the Fourth Doctor before his regeneration into his next incarnation. (TV: Logopolis)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Through the flashback in Logopolis, the dark gray Dalek commander from Destiny of the Daleks is one of a very small number of individual Daleks to make multiple televised appearances in the “classic series” of Doctor Who.
