Stike
Group Marshal Stike served in the Ninth Sontaran Battle Group and fought in the Madillon Cluster.
Biography
Hoping to use time travel to win the Sontarans' war against the Rutans, Stike agreed to Chessene o' the Franzine Grig's offer of the Doctor's TARDIS in return for him wiping out the scientists aboard Space Station Camera. He began to lose trust in Chessene after the Second Doctor's TARDIS disappeared and sent Varl with her, Joinson Dastari, Shockeye o' the Quawncing Grig and the unconscious Doctor to Earth, (PROSE: The Two Doctors [+]Loading...["The Two Doctors (novelisation)"]) chosen by Chessene in part because of its proximity to the Madillon Cluster where the Ninth Sontaran Battle Group were preparing to fight, to set up a homing beacon for him to follow.
Stike became impatient for Dastari to isolate the Second Doctor's symbiotic nuclei to make the Kartz-Reimer module operational as he intended to join the Ninth Sontaran Battle Group before they went to battle. The long-suffering Stike was stabbed in the leg by Jamie McCrimmon, attacked with coronic acid, partly disintegrated by the time vessel which the Sixth Doctor had sabotaged, and finally blown up by his own spacecraft, which had been set to self-destruct. Shockeye recovered one of his legs. (TV: The Two Doctors [+]Loading...["The Two Doctors (TV story)"])
Legacy
Marshal Stike was still remembered four centuries later, as the Sontarans knew capturing the Doctor's TARDIS would be useless without the Fifth Doctor. (PROSE: Lords of the Storm [+]Loading...["Lords of the Storm (novel)"])
Personality
Joinson Dastari described Stike as a "militaristic buffoon". (TV: The Two Doctors [+]Loading...["The Two Doctors (TV story)"])
Behind the scenes
- The Stike costume was later used for Group Marshal Nathan in A Fix with Sontarans.
- In Doctor Whoah! 383, the Sontarans from The Two Doctors (Stike and Varl) get angry at their agent for not getting them roles since A Fix with Sontarans; this implies that Stike and Varl "performed" as Nathan and Turner, matching with the performers and actors being repurposed between The Two Doctors and Fix.
- In WC: Strax Field Report: The Doctors, Strax recalls that "the Lord and Hero" Stike served justice to the Second Doctor.
