Disclaimer was a feature released on the BBC's Millingdale website on 8 April 2006 to coincide with series 2 of Doctor Who. It acted as the in-universe disclaimer page for the Millingdale website.
The page primarily served to provide new information regarding Millingdale, although an out-of-universe disclaimer was featured at the very bottom of the page.
Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]
Millingdale thank the reader for their interest in Millingdale Ice Creams, and state their pride for their range of flavours, and the careful way that they create their "delicious desserts" and "savoury sorbets".
Additionally, they state that they can't be held responsible for allergic or adverse reactions to their "products, flavours, flavourings, additives, or any fertilisers, pesticides, nuts, allergens or toxicants contained within".
After this, they explain that although their packaging is kept clear, it's also made quirky, by allowing customers to know the names of the cows whose udders are responsible for the "tangy dessert".
Furthermore, they claim to also name their fruit trees, although they don't name their staff - they can keep the names they were born with.
Next, they claim that on their product, "Peanut Perfection", they refuse to say that the product may contain nuts, as they not only believe that their customers aren't stupid, but claim to have done tests which revealed that people who eat their ice creams are 37% smarter than people who eat other ice creams.
Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Names of Millingdale's cows include Arthur, Beatrice, Johnny, Damian, Millicent and Dalmatia.
- Names of their fruit trees include Old Faithful, Ol' Yeller, and Rotten Ol' Shrivel Fruit.
- An image can be seen depicting a Millingdale employee giving an ice cream to a customer.
Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Although Peanut Perfection is said to be a product sold by Millingdale, it is not actually stated whether it's ice cream, and earlier in the feature, they claim to also sell sorbets.
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Millingdale was introduced in the home page of the Millingdale site.
- Millingdale state that they serve sorbets, a fact also stated in Our Flavours.
