Clara and the TARDIS (home video)
Clara and the TARDIS was a Doctor Who mini-episode made exclusively for the series 7 DVD and Blu-ray box sets. It was written by Steven Moffat and featured Jenna-Louise Coleman as Clara Oswald.
It does not feature the Doctor, but rather focuses on Clara and her relationship with his TARDIS. This story is notable as the first example of a filmed Doctor Who story to feature only one actor and no other characters.
Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]
Clara Oswald gets into an argument with the TARDIS after the TARDIS plays a practical joke on her in the shower and then makes her bedroom disappear. After revealing to Clara that she is far from being the first girl the Doctor has "brought home", the TARDIS plays another trick on Clara that has her seeing double, and triple, and quadruple...

Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
Individuals[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Clara has a bedroom on the TARDIS for when she's too tired to go back to the Maitland house; lethargic Clara would not do well with looking after the two bundles of energy.
- Two of the future Clara's say that they share a bed, but the look they give each other implies something else.
The TARDIS[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The TARDIS can alter the flow of time inside herself and avoid the Blinovitch Limitation Effect due to being outside the main universe.
Story notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- This is the first filmed story set entirely within the TARDIS in which the Doctor does not appear in any form. It is also the first Doctor Who television story in which a companion is featured but not the Doctor since the 1960s.
- This story is erroneously described as a behind-the-scenes featurette in some pre-release press coverage of the box set.
- All the images of the Doctor's past companions that appear on the TARDIS monitor are borrowed publicity photos that have been used for promotional material during those actors' respective eras.
Home video releases[[edit] | [edit source]]
This mini-episode was released as part of The Complete Seventh Series on DVD and Blu Ray on September 24, 2013.
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Clara continues to be at odds with the TARDIS. (TV: The Rings of Akhaten, Hide)
- The TARDIS, in response to Clara's statement asking if the TARDIS is upset because the Doctor has brought a girl home for the night, is shown images of a number of past companions (in this case: Ace, Martha Jones, Nyssa, Peri Brown, Romana I and Romana II, Rose Tyler, Sarah Jane Smith and Amy Pond). Clara takes particular note of Amy's legs. The TARDIS previously gave a similar slide show to Amy herself, with Amy making a similar remark with regards to Leela. (HOMEVID: Meanwhile in the TARDIS)
- Evidently, Clara never learns the identity of the woman with the legs as when she hears Amelia/Amy's name mentioned by the Doctor later (once in TV: The Time of the Doctor and again in TV: Deep Breath), she doesn't recognise it.
- Ace and Nyssa are shown for the first time in the revived series.
- As Clara is unaware of past companions prior to the TARDIS revealing them to her, this story has to take place prior to the events of TV: The Name of the Doctor.
- Clara says that the TARDIS created a holographic leopard while she was in the bathroom. The TARDIS previously created a holographic voice interface of Clara to argue with Clara. (TV: Hide)
- Despite the TARDIS earlier indicating that standard communication is impossible, (TV: The Doctor's Wife) she is heard to express mood and even appears to laugh by way of beeping her console. She also responds directly to Clara commenting about the Doctor bringing girls around by showing Clara images of past companions.
- Although several episodes in Series 7 and 8 indicate that Clara is not a full-time resident of the TARDIS, she does nonetheless have a bedroom aboard the TARDIS. (TV: The Crimson Horror, et al)
- Once again, the Doctor is nowhere to be found as his companion beds down for the night. (TV: Bad Night)
- Clara says that the Doctor is in a codependent relationship with his sonic screwdriver. He'd previously identified it as the only thing he carried that had sentimental value to him, even asking Clara to part with her mother's ring so he could keep the screwdriver as it "comes in handy"; the ring was returned to her, however. (TV: The Rings of Akhaten)
