The Dr Who Travels in Space Painting Book was a 1966 narrative painting book featuring the First Doctor. It told a story with minimal prose content and large black-and-white illustrations which readers had to option to either paint or colour in themselves.

This was one of two instalments in the Dr Who Travels in Space series of activity books from World Distributors, the other being the similarly-narrative Dr Who Travels in Space Sticker Fun Book.

Plot

Dr. Who sets off to explore space and arrives on an unknown planet. He wanders the planet and witnesses a duel between ferocious dinosaur-like creatures and fearsome insects which are much larger than normal. Dr. Who is then attacked by a group of aliens and is taken to their leader, who proves to be friendly.

However, enemy rockets suddenly attack Dr. Who and his new friends. Robots take the aliens prisoner and return with them to Robot City. The aliens are made slaves but in the robots' control tower Dr. Who wrecks the controls and captures the robot leader. The robots are paralysed which destroys them and Dr. Who is proclaimed a hero by the aliens before setting off for another adventure.

Story notes

  • The illustrations initially depict the Doctor as wearing a hat but it disappears after he is captured by the aliens, possibly suggesting that he lost it in the confusion.
