Nerena Cargill

Nerena was a convict who was sent to the colony (later named Basingstoke by the Doctor),and was the closest thing to a medical officer. She tried to find a cure to the 'plauge' which was in fact being caused by a Gene Splicer. Her crime was unknown but it could have been killing her own parents, as they died in a car crash, and she hinted that she 'deserved to be here more than most people'. She had sent out a series of messages to the empire warning them that the planet was biohazard and no-one should attempt to make planetfall. Her last message was infact a fake, in order to make the colony a success rather than having it covered in concrete by the empire. (DWM: Supernature)
