Antalin
- There is possibly another planet called Antalin. See Antalin (ocean world).
Antalin was a planet which served as a decoy for Skaro.
Profile
During the 22nd century Dalek invasion, the Daleks discovered records which showed that Skaro had been destroyed during the Imperial-Renegade Dalek Civil War. The Doctor apparently had destroyed Skaro using the Hand of Omega. (EDA: War of the Daleks)
- The destruction of Skaro occurred in the future, though the Doctor did not leave the 1963 time zone. See the Shoreditch Incident.
After an unsuccessful attempt to change history, the Daleks realised that history could not be altered and Skaro would have to appear to be destroyed.
In order to fool both Davros and the Doctor into thinking Skaro had been destroyed, the Daleks terraformed Antalin to resemble Skaro. Davros was moved from Skaro to Antalin and placed inside a replica of the Kaled bunker. The Daleks also created a race of robots called the Movellans and manufactured a war with them, before reviving Davros. It was Antalin which served as the location for the Doctor and Romana's encounter with the Daleks and which was destroyed by the Hand of Omega. (EDA: War of the Daleks)
The terraformed Antalin appeared to be a desolate world with a large amount of rocks and some grass. The ruined Kaled Dome and bunker were also recreated. For some reason, a Kaled mutant was found by the Doctor. (DW: Destiny of the Daleks, EDA: War of the Daleks)
- It is likely that the Daleks placed it there to further make Antalin resemble Skaro.
The real Skaro survived, probably being destroyed (DW: Daleks in Manhattan) or left in ruins (VG: City of the Daleks) in the further stages of the Last Great Time War.
Behind the scenes
War of the Daleks rationalizing away the destruction of Skaro in Remembrance of the Daleks as a hoax has met with some displeasure by fans.
It is heavily implied in Daleks in Manhattan and the Doctor Who Annual 2006 that Skaro was destroyed in the Last Great Time War. However, it is also implied in the Annual that the events of Remembrance of the Daleks were also part of the Time War, so if Skaro was destroyed in Remembrance it would still fit with the claims of Dalek Caan and the Annual (to some degree).
A water-covered planet called Antalin also appears in War of the Daleks. The novel's author, John Peel, stated on the newsgroup rec.arts.drwho that this was because he misread his notes. He also said that the two Antalins are different worlds.
