The Black Sun was a star in the Wrarth Galaxy. When the orbit of the Meep homeworld shifted toward this star, a once peaceful race turned to wars of conquest under the banner of the Black Sun. (DWM: The Star Beast)

It is never explicitly stated what about the rays of the Black Sun affected the Meeps. However, Meep starcruisers are powered by neutron piles, which are often referred to as miniature Black Suns.
