Pterodactyl
The Pterosaurs (often erroneously referred to as Pterodactyls) were a type of winged reptiles native to Earth in its early history.
Biology
There were numerous species of pterosaurs, known to range in size from small (DW: Invasion of the Dinosaurs) to ones with a 40 foot wingspans (NA: Blood Heat). No one knew how they took off from the ground into flight. (EDA: EarthWorld)
History
One type of Pterosaur was brought to the 20th century during Operation Golden Age. They were used for general chaos and to help guard the base. (DW: Invasion of the Dinosaurs)
Another type, the Pteranodon, had one individual brought to 20th century Cardiff by the Cardiff Rift. This Pteranodon was captured by Torchwood Three and kept as a mascot. (TW: Everything Changes)
In an alternate universe, an especially large type of Pterosaur was used by the Silurians as a steed. With a 40 foot wingspan, it could easily carry a Silurian. They were used as war steeds in times of battle and would cling to the side of the airships. (NA: Blood Heat)
