Percy Bysshe Shelley was a 19th century English Romantic poet. He was the husband of Mary Shelley, best known as the author of the science based horror story Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus, who later became a companion of the Eighth Doctor. His circle of friends included his fellow Romantic poet Lord Byron and John Polidori, one of the first authors to write about vampires. (BFA: Mary's Story)

The Fifth Doctor once expressed a desire to meet him. (BFA: Castle of Fear) In his eighth incarnation, he would later encounter both Shelley and his wife in the Villa Diodati near Lake Geneva in Switzerland in June 1816. (BFA: Mary's Story)
