An air corridor was an artificial environment which could be extended from the TARDIS into open space. It provided a limited amount of protection to those who were inside it. The Doctor's TARDIScould create an air corridor, and did so for River Song's escape from the Byzantium spaceship for her to reach the TARDIS safely.
