A New Threat! was a Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons comic story printed in TV Century 21 in 1968.
The location of Unity City, first introduced in The Daleks story Duel of the Daleks, was of strong narrative significance due to being the stated target of the Mysterons, thus constituting a crossover with the Doctor Who universe.

Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The exploded planet's debris forms an asteroid three miles wide.
- The Space Force crafts sent to survey and destroy this asteroid returns to Kahra after completing its mission.
- Captain Scarlet attempts to use his willpower to change to course of the asteroid but quickly realises he must be outside the solar system and the range of Mysteron influence.
- Scarlet finds a ration can from an Earth spacecraft, which he later finds out is the space freighter Sirius.
- "Old-type" XL ships use cadmite-based fuel and need acid to dissolve the cadmite ready for use.
- According to Scarlet, wasps and spiders are natural enemies.

- Although Cape Kennedy was named as such at the time of this story's writing and release in 1968, it became Cape Canaveral in 1973, long before the story's futuristic setting of 2068.

- The Mysterons have threatened to destroy Unity City before, although on this occasion it is not a genuine effort but a ploy to trap Captain Scarlet. (COMIC: We Will Destroy Unity City)
- Spectrum fit specialised electrode weapons including an electrode cannon to their craft so they can take the fight to the Mysterons. (COMIC: Traitor Black Gives In!)
