Veronica Hobbes was the feisty assistant of Maurice Newbury.

In October 1902 Sir Maurice Newbury and his friend Charles Bainbridge were held prisoner by the Cabal of the Horned Beast. The Cabal wished to retrieve a book stolen from them by Newbury on behalf of Veronica's sister Amelia. The pair were rescued by Veronica, who was able to follow the trail after Bainbridge's abduction. (PROSE: The Sacrificial Pawn)

In 1903, Professor Angelchrist summoned Veronica, Maurice and Charles to his country seat in Oxfordshire, which he had obtained earlier in the year from his late uncle, in order to inspect a creature that his men had found while dredging the lake. It was decided that the corpse would be taken to London and inspected by Dr John Farrowdene. Farrowdene confirmed that the creature was a mutated human and indicated that Dr Aubrey Knox was behind the creature's creation. Upon inspection of Knox's laboratory the group were attacked by another mutant creature and Angelchrist saved Veronica by shooting it with his pistol. They were taken prisoner by more creatures but eventually managed to escape. (COMIC: The Undying)

When Maurice attended Brenda Soobie's Las Vegas party in 1967 he informed George Mann that Veronica couldn't attend as she had a head cold. (PROSE: Party Fears Two)
