Dalek Saturn Probe (short story)
Dalek Saturn Probe was the first prose story original to The Dalek Outer Space Book, a Dalek annual of the 1960s.
Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]
When humans land on Titan, a moon of Saturn, they discover a strange metal scroll in a crater. According to it, an advanced Dalek colony existed on Titan "long ago". However, the Daleks made the mistake of attempting to drill down to the core of Saturn through its layers of gas, triggering an explosion. There the record ends. Scientists speculate that the explosion triggered by the Daleks' mining may have create the "famous" Rings of Saturn, and a painting of the Dalek colony is reconstructed based on the information written on the scrolls.
Characters[[edit] | [edit source]]
Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Titan's atmosphere reacted explosively to excess methane.
Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Ironically, in the real world, methane is an important component of Titan's atmosphere, to a degree of about 5 percent. It would thus be counterfactual to suggest that there could be an adverse reactin "between" the Titanian atmosphere and methane. This is an example of divergences between the DWU and the real world.
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Daleks attempted to conquer the solar system. (COMIC: Invasion of the Daleks)
- Daleks attempted to drill down to the heart of Saturn, as they had previously attempted on Earth. (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth)
