New Cadmus
New Cadmus was a space station attacked by the Ninth Cyber Legion during the Cyber-Wars.
Layout[[edit] | [edit source]]
New Cadmus was composed of iridium, and was larger than even the flagship of the Ninth Cyber Legion. The space station itself contained numerous stairwells, corridors, gantries, hangar bays, air vents and airlocks. The station also contained at least one loading bay filled with lifters and crates, as well as a form of computer console. A machine known as the "Cadmus Engine" was also located on the station. Crew[[edit] | [edit source]]
The crew members of New Cadmus included a large number of human soldiers, dressed in tunics and breeches with the initials "N.C." stitched on their breasts. Armed with energy weapons and grenades, these soldiers were intelligent enough to know how to effectively fight the Cybermen of the Ninth Cyber Legion, choosing to focus their weapons' fire on one Cybermen at a time; this indicated that they had fought Cybermen prior to the Ninth Cyber Legion's invasion of the station. Additionally, at least two humans that were not soldiers also served on New Cadmus. (PROSE: Ghost in the Machine)
History[[edit] | [edit source]]
During the Cyber-Wars, New Cadmus was attacked by the Ninth Cyber Legion. The Cyber-Controller of the Legion ordered the dozens of Cybermen attacking the space station to destroy a target that constantly disappeared and reappeared across the station, forcing the Cybermen to frequently conquer areas that they would immediately abandon afterwards, despite the heavy losses that they sustained. During the battle, the human soldiers of New Cadmus served as significant resistance to the Cybermen, and even ejected airlocks into space to eliminate them. Eventually, the Cyber-Controller ordered the Cybermen to attack in groups of three or four troops, so as to lock down their target.
During the battle, a Cyberman previously designated "9.9-VIV" and eight other Cybermen attacked a loading bay. Eventually, a machine known as the "Cadmus Engine" was either activated, deactivated, or primed to explode; 9.9P was unable to confirm which event was true among the three, due to no longer possessing the information clearance that Primus Cybermen had to the Cyberiad.
In addition, 9.9P hallucinated the appearance of a human girl that it had previously hallucinated on many of the locations invaded by the Ninth Cyber Legion. Having slowly gone insane over constantly seeing the girl, with no record of her appearance detected by the Cyberiad, 9.9P rapidly fired its Cyber wrist blaster at the girl, overheating and destroying its weapon, thereby destroying itself in the process. 9.9P's dying body was then examined by the Sixth Doctor and Peri Brown, the former noting that the Cyberman had missed every single shot it fired.
