The Wizard of Oz is a multimedia franchise which began with the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum in 1900. It was later adapted into a film in 1939, and gained several other adaptations into stage plays, comics, video games, etc.

The main story revolves around Dorothy Gale and her home in Kansas being picked up by a tornado and landing in the Land of Oz, atop a witch. She then embarks on a journey to make her way back to Kansas, which has her meet several new people, including the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow. By the end of the film, they each gain something they needed - courage for the lion, a heart for the Tin Man, and a brain for the Scarecrow, with Dorothy herself travelling home using a pair of ruby slippers.

Crossovers[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Wizard of Oz was one of the multiple franchises to be represented alongside the Doctor Who universe in the mass-crossover toys-to-life video game, LEGO Dimensions. The Wizard of Oz content was present in the game at official release, along with the Doctor Who content.

This inclusion allowed players to control the franchise's one playable character - the Wicked Witch of the West - and have her play through the A Dalektable Adventure and Dalek Extermination of Earth levels, and explore the Who-themed adventure world, as well as operate K9 and interact with the Doctor's TARDIS.

In turn, this allowed the player to play as the Doctor or the Cyberman during the Follow the LEGO Brick Road story and explore The Wizard of Oz adventure world, as well as using the related vehicle - the Winged Monkey - in any world.

In promotional material related to the game, the two franchises appeared together in the trailers Endless Awesome and New Adventures Await!, as well as a gameplay appearance in Supergirl Meets E.T.. In Endless Awesome, the Wicked Witch of the West appears flying on her broomstick before being knocked off by soundwaves from Marty McFly's guitar. Flying Monkeys can also be seen throughout the video.

In New Adventures Await!, the Wicked Witch of the West appears in the Land of Ooo, flying on her broom with Gizmo. They each get splashed with water from B.A. Baracus' van, which they disapprove of. She also appears near the end of the trailer running into battle alongside most other characters in the trailer, including the Twelfth Doctor, before winding up in a mosh pit.

In Supergirl Meets E.T., some of the gameplay footage shown as part of the webcast's fiction depicts E.T. standing in the Land of Oz, "call[ing] his crew of intergalactic botanists".

In The Cactus and the Corpse [+]Loading...["The Cactus and the Corpse (short story)"], minor book character Ojo the Unlucky was mentioned as an interdimensional visitor to the Plume Coteries' Library.
